Anglicare Sydney welcomes the news of further consultation on the new Aged Care Act, following the Federal Government’s decision to delay its introduction to Parliament.
Anglicare Sydney CEO, Simon Miller, said: “Alongside other leading aged care providers, care workers, advocates, older Australians, their families and community members, we have provided extensive feedback to the Government.
“I’m pleased that the Government is taking the additional time required to listen and respond to the extensive sector and community feedback.
“A new rights-based Aged Care Act is a critical step in aged care reform, and it is vital that we ensure it sets up providers to deliver the best possible care for the generations to follow.
“We have lived with the current Act for almost 30 years and it is likely we will live with a new Act for at least a decade or two. It is far better to get the new Act right, rather than rush to meet a particular date.
“With an ageing population, we need to invest in a caring and financially sustainable aged care system that provides dignity, respect, and comprehensive support. A system that allows people to age with grace, choice and to enjoy their retirement in their community,” he said.
Anglicare Sydney looks forward to further consultation in the months ahead to ensure high quality and person-centred care for those needing it now and for future generations.
